A glorious day at Sandy Bay as 14 Spartan troopers headed off to tackle the skillful Jleaguers. They started off with a flyer dominating the first 20 minutes but our defence held very well and thwarted every attack they threw at us. Slowly we got back into the game and then a 60 meter driving shot in his own half from Paul Hoy left the keeper for dead to put us up one-nil. Surely the goal of the season so far.
We continued to play good football and the rest of the second half was a battle in midfield with Drummond fighting hard for the cause. Allard was doing some nice crosses from the right and both Flabbo and Benito had chances to put us up further ahead. We came into the half time break brimming with confidence however we knew the Jleaguers would up the ante in the 2nd half.
We fortunately got away with a close penalty call in the beginning of the 2nd half. But the refs sided with us and didn't award the penalty. The Jleaguers continued to press forward but our defence marshaled by Paul Hoy and Rich our super keeper was well up for the job. Slowly as the 2nd half continued we started to create chances as Jleaguers pushed forward. Allard had a one on one with the keeper which was saved, however made amends by slotting in a nice shot at the near post after a nice one two with Benito.
Allard now is top goal scorer of the league not bad for a right side midfielder. In the final 5 minutes Benito was unlucky not to score when the Jleaguers keeper made an excellent finger tip save.
The final whistle came and we held off for another clean sheet, Spartans defence again held strong and we took our chances unlike the Jleaguers. All holds well for next Saturdays cup final, however we will need to improve on this performance to win the cup.
Henry.
