SPARTANS 3 vs ADW 1
SPARTANS: Goals: Benito Renfum, Nick Ferguson, Carlos Sales Assists: Medhi Selhi, Henry Vera
ADW: Goals: Paul Slater Assist: ???
As we headed to sandy beach of Happy Valley pitch 4, I had about handful of players suiting up and few others lost in the traffic, sleeping or just plain forgotten. However we were able to kick-off with 3 reserves and a few positional changes. But the big story was how our new star Brazilians imports would fair. After our cup disappointment some on-the-field signing for Spartans and ADW we were ready to roll.
The first half we seem to have the better of the game, Benito playing unfamiliar role in central midfield was winning a lot of ball against the strong Squadron duo of Slatter and Armstrong. Drummond was for ever busy and while Murps and Alex were holding the ball up very well our front two were giving Hanson and Yannis all sorts of problems. About 15 gone and Nick Oates filling in as keeper had a bit of brain explosion and gave the ball away allowing Benito with a precise 30 meter shot into an empty net. 1 nil up just the start we needed.
We continued to surge on and then a nice through ball from the gaffa found Fergie free in the middle and with nonchalant ease he slotted the goal in the back of the net. Up 2-nil we were cruising and playing well. A few more reserves came in and we were looking for another goal. Our defence was playing very well with Jimmy being a standout on the left for mine winning everything.
At the stroke of half-time a some what 5 second delayed dive after the most gentlest of touches saw ADW awarded a very dubious penalty. Well taken ADW strike a goal back and we go into the half 2-1 somewhat flattering score for ADW I thought.
The start of the second half we dominated even more, with both Brazilians Carlos and Alex playing up front ADW was mesmerized totally lost on how to contain these two star imports. Then after some superb passing and interchanging Carlos slotted a superb goal and we were up 3-1. We continued to play well and started to change the team around and started to move players around in different positions and before we knew we started to lose momentum. ADW for last 15 had the better of the game in the midst of the darkness of the Valley. Fortunately for us some excellent defending by the back 4 and one glaring miss from one of their Norwegians saw ADW kept at bay.
Very good win and nice to be back on the winning ways. H.
