PAFC 1 vs Mes Amis 1
PAFC: Goals: John Pimlott
Mes Amis: Goals: Henry Turner Assists: Mark Norman
In drive to encourage more female spectators to the Legal League; the game experimented with the 2 match officials refereeing the game . topless.
I'm sure this will take off as the female contingent was soon wet and soggy just like the pitch after a week's worth of rain.
PAFC look the business whilst Mes Amis - without Dowding, McInnes, Bell, Sass & Howells - look more 'Dogs of War' rather than the 'crème de la crème' of the Legal League.
Kick off and it's apparent that PAFC mean business; decent attacking play means that the ball doesn't leave the Mes half of the pitch for the first 10 minutes of the game.
Still PAFC 25 minutes in as the Mes defensive area resembles Rourke's Drift and just like Rourke's Drift the Mes had there own Welsh choir singing hero in keeper Lee Brown.
Brown worked hard to keep the score goalless with his acrobatics and marshalling his defence.
To say PAFC dominated the half would be kinda like saying China has one or two Chinese fellas in it.
With 10 minutes of the half to go PAFC attacked down the right; as the ball is whipped in Mes's Tommy Smith is adjudged to have blocked the cross with his arm.
Handball.
Penalty.
Pimlott took the honour and struck well to the keeper's right, however, Shrewsbury born Brown - long-time Aled Jones cohort and still fresh from his Dudek-esque penalty saving heroics in Shekou - went the right way and managed to get both hands to the ball for a corner.
0 - 0.
The save from Brown (is that an extra 3 points for a penalty save? - Ed) kept Mes Amis in the game as both sides went into the interval 0 - 0.
2nd half continued in much the same fashion as the first, wave after wave of PAFC attack, the Mes Amis defence area now more Death Star than Rourke's Drift as both PAFC wings attacked at will.
Despite having a majority of the play PAFC lacked the killer touch to get the 1st goal.
5 minutes into the half, a moment of madness, a lapse of concentration by the - before then - reliable Nick Forsey as he gifts the ball to Pimlott.
Pimlott takes the ball towards the byline and shoots from the acutest of angles.
GOAL.
1 - 0 PAFC.
Pimlott makes up the for the earlier penalty miss (is that - 3 points for a penalty miss? - Ed).
More pressure from PAFC as they chased the 2nd goal to kill off the game.
The Mes defence were now camped in their own area.
More PAFC attacks including the mother of all goal mouth scrambles.
With 5 minutes to go a disaster for PAFC.
A defensive slip by PAFC gifted the ball to Norman.
Flash.
Stormin' Norman strode down the right and struck a low shot to the keeper's right, the PAFC keeper does well to save but is unable to keep hold of the ball; Henry Turner was on hand to pounce.
1 - 1.
Yes a wet ball . I blame the topless referees . you win some you lose some.
PAFC and they will be kicking themselves for not taking the 3 points These 2 meet again on Oct 7th.
