Monopoly:
JLeaguers BOC secured back to back wins having beaten Monopoly 4-0 on Saturday. An early goal by BOC's "man in form" Rick Man, scored from a corner that was not cleared by the Monopoly defence. The early goal settled some nerves as the BOCs knew that this team had beaten Mes Amis 1-0 in their previous game.
Soon it was 2-0. Another fast break from the BOCs saw the ball hit a few desperate outstretched Monopoly defenders' legs before an instinctive shot from Jason from a rebound left the goalie with no chance. By now the BOCs were full of confidence, moving the ball around and taking shots at will. A few speculative shots even rattled the cross bar as the Monopoly defence backed off.
Jason inevitably scored his second and BOC's third when a great through ball saw him sprint into the area but was fouled just before he could get his shot off. He cooly slotted the ball into the corner making 3-0 with 10 mintues still to play before half time. A few subs were made by BOCs and this bought instant dividends. A corner swang in was met by BOC's new signing Kehinde who rose to nod the ball past the keeper who could was crowded out by both BOC and his own players.
In the second half, BOCs started where they left off running at the defence but Monopoly's keeper made a string of fine saves. Despite the scoreline, Monopoly kept on pressing and did manage a few decent shots on goal. BOCs were not able to add to their scoreline largely due to the brilliance of their goalie coupled with some uncharacteristic finishing from Danny.
The game ended with no yellow cards branded and played in a fantastic manner. For a new team to come in with that attitude, I applaud Monopoly and like the other new teams who have joined our league, they indeed play with the right spirit and temperment. I no doubt believe that they will be stronger the next time we meet
