ADW 2 vs Revolution 6

REVOLUTION: Goals: David Jessop 3, Edwards, Vinny Rowse   Assists: ????

Revolution bounced back from the previous week's non performance vs Mes with an emphatic win over ADW in the stygian gloom of the new astro pitch at Sandy Bay.

In the pre-match build-up, captain Dave Jessop spent a good few minutes identifying 6 or 7 dangermen in the ADW side that, for once, looked more like a Hearts team rather than a Squadron team.  Obviously, some big players were saving themselves for a bigger game on the Sunday.

Despite the scoreline, ADW were not pushovers by any means.  Indeed, with a little more luck up front, the scoreline could have been 7-all.  ADW made easy work of cutting through the Revo defence at times and enjoyed plenty of possession, but seemed to lack that final finish in the dark conditions.  The way the game panned out meant that ADW had to gamble on bodies being thrown forward and unfortunately for the boys in red, that left them exposed at the back.

Revo enjoyed an early lead for once.  I was tying my shoelace at the time, so I’ve had to rely on a number of reports.  Hudson was explaining to me in Delaneys how Dave delicately chipped the ball from just outside the box, whilst Dave himself was explaining to some blonde in the bar his Stevie G-esque screamer from inside his own half.  The consensus is now 60-yards out, give or take 35-yards either way.

ADW hit back with a cleverly worked freekick that caught the Revo defence flatfooted.  A quick freekick picked out a midfielder’s run from deep and he slotted home with aplomb.  The Revo defence looked at each other with an air of despondency.

Revo then get lucky for 2-1 soon after. The Rowseman wins a penalty after his cross from the right is inexplicably handballed in the box by an ADW defender.  Greedy guts, Jessop, upon seeing designated PK taker, Hudson, approaching from his own box to take the penalty, decides to take matters into his own hands.  “Hudson would have had to have ripped that ball out of my dead hands” says Jessop after the game during his explanation to the blonde as to how he calmly slotted the penalty home, whilst reading the paper with his slippers on at the same time.

Revo get lucky again for 3-1.  Scouse Jesus’ deep free kick from the left is headed in by one of the ADW defence at the far post on the stroke of half time.

The second half saw ADW go for broke and, boy, did they put Revo under pressure.  Revo had to weather the storm and hope to hit on the break which we did for 4-1 deep into the second half. Jessop sends the goalie the wrong way with his miscued right footed sliced effort, after a great run and exquisite cutback from Wes Wong on the right wing.  According to Jessop, it was a deliberate dummy to send the goalie the wrong way – looking at the far corner of the goal, whilst placing a “no-look” shot into the other corner.

With the result now beyond reach, ADW’s heads went down and Revo notched up a couple more for a flattering scoreline.  5-1: Jase Edwards “shoulders” home another Scouse Jesus free kick with ADW in disarray at the back.  5-2: ADW finally get an attack to work and an easy chance was put away.  6-2: The Vinster gets just reward for a hard-working performance, rounding the goalie and slotting into an empty net after Ronaldaleinho put him through with a precision, laser–like defence splitter.

This was by no means a perfect performance from Revolution and ADW had more than their fair share of possession and chances.  In brighter conditions, the result could have been oh so different.

Anyroads, we’ll take the points and enjoy the result.  Watch out Legals next week.
