32: BOCs 2
vs JLeaguers 1 3.00pm
- Sandy Bay new astro
On one of those hot summer days, BOC emerged triumphant on the semi
final place decider with a deserved victory over the JLeaguers. With a
victory needed by the BOCs, it was a massive boost to tired and
sunburnt limbs when Kehinde Longe scored when he slotted the ball
between the legs of the out rushing goalie after the JLeaguers failed
to play their offside trap.
There was not much goal mouth action in the first half as both teams
were struggling with the heat. In the second half JLeaguers pressed for
the equalizer as that was all they needed to go through. BOC defended
deep and were getting pressed back more and more with the occasional
long ball being the only way out.
It was from one of these attacks that led to BOC's second goal. A quick
throw to a just sub-ed BOC player enabled him to beat the full back and
whip in a cross on the ground that was met full on by the onrushing
Jason Lee that saw the ball smash into the back of the net with the
goalie having no chance. BOCs thought the game was won but back came
the JLeaguers who won a penalty with about 5 mins to go. No surprise
then that from then on, BOC just hoofed the ball down field. When the
final whistle was blown, the relief on BOC faces was clear to see. They
now await to see who they will play in the semis

but without the critical final ball to carve out goal scoring
opportunities. Revo's better use of the ball eventually paid dividends
with Vijay Dowlani finishing off two long range efforts and only being
denied a first half hattrick by the inside of the far post with the
ball rolling back along the entire goalline. Half time 2-0. QRE87
started the second half brightly and got an early breakthrough with a
through ball that caught the Revo defence sleeping and enabled the
QRE87 forward to slide the ball beyond the advancing Revo keeper. It
took some time for Revo to regain their composure, but eventually found
the breakthough with Dave Jessop finally taking one of his chances and
Al Moore scoring on late in the game to make it 4-1.

Monopoly 0 vs Goodfellas 0 12.00noon
- Kings Park 1
On a dreary rain-soaked afternoon Monopoly and Goodfellas played out
their respective final game of the 2008 / 2009 Legal League
season. Although things began evenly Monopoly were soon under
the
gun with injuries to both Youssef Ajdir and Marc Scott which eventually
ruled them both out for the remainder of the game. This,
compounded by some late arrivals due to the rain, meant Monopoly
struggled to keep the attack-minded Goodfellas at bay who, smelling
blood, kept up one relentless attack after another throughout the first
and second halves.
Monopoly hung on interrupting proceedings with the occasional foray
into Goodfella territory only to see the ball coming straight back at
them like some kind of boomerang. If it wasn't for an
astonishing
last minute point blank reflex save by the irrepressible Youn Seong
from a ferocious near-penalty spot missile, Goodfellas would have
undoubtedly wrapped up the thr ee points. An honourable
mention

since inception which is just over a decade, it was his first ever
legal league goal and has had all BOC players talking about it ever
since, the main point of contention...."did he really mean it?".
No surprise then that South has proclaimed that his 25 yard chip which
gave the excellent USRC keeper no chance was all skill. With the ball
suddenly at his feet, only he (and only he) knows how he managed to
score with such accuracy and deftest of touch when the position of his
body and the velocity at which his foot struck the ball, should have
sent the ball way over the conveniently located drinking bar at King's

a cool and
overcast afternoon at Kings Park Monopoly narrowly won this tie after
fending off a sustained period of last minute pressure from

edge of the area that fortunately pinged back off the upright. BOC’s
began with a seriously undermanned squad and fielded an unorthodox back
four that did well to avoid conceding although Monopoly had the ball in
the back of the net only for it to be correctly disallowed for offside. Monopoly
enjoyed the majority of possession in a tame first half with
BOC’s, eventually with a full complement of personnel, only
managing to muster one or two real chances although nothing that
ultimately tested the resilient Youn Seong in goal.
After
increasing the tempo it was a subs equent Ed Doyle surge into the BOC
box that led to the opening goal with the midfielder going around a
number of defenders before turning neatly and burying his shot into the
back of the net from the edge of the six yard box.

- Hammer
Hill Sports Ground
Debutantes Goodfellas continued
their excellent form with a thumping win over the hapless BoCs at the
impressive Hammer Hill Stadium. BoCs started the game with 8 men and
quickly gave the advantage to Goodfellas with Hans Cheung continuing
his excellent form to open the scoring. As the depleted BoC's looked
for cover to hide, Goodfellas where full of running and where awarded a
penalty for Jason Li to slot home. Hans Cheung scored another and Jason
Knight slotted home his first goal for the season to give Goodfellas 4
before the break. Second half BoCs had a full compliment of players
however this didn't stop Shaka Hinds from adding to the total in a
demolition job.
Week
3: Revolution 0 vs Monopoly 1 12.30pm
- Sandy Bay new astro
A controversial penalty was
enough to sneak Monopoly to an all important win and make it two from
two in an excellent start to the season. Little separated both sides
with defenses well on top as the teams went to the break scoreless. The
defining moment came midway through the second half when ex-Revolution
player Andy Saxon was judged to have been brought down in the
box.
The experienced Ed Doyle kept his cool to slot home the penalty and the
winner to Revolutions dissapointment.

convincing 3 nil victory over the hapless Legal Head side. JLeaguers
didn't have it all there way and the first half was close until
Kiyohiro Makino broke through the Legals defence to open scoring for
JLeaguers. JLeaguers held a slender 1 nil lead at the break but
increased their advantage to two with an excellent strike
from
Tomoo Onodera. The JLeaguers Hironori Nishiguchi headed home the third
to rapturous applause from the thrilled JLeaguers supporters.

their Legal League debut in the best possible fashion with excellent
victory over Legal Head in the night game at Kings Park. USRC started
the stronger with Michael Bayo opening the scoring with excellent
strike. Then an own goal extended the lead to give USRC a handy buffer
at half time. Legal Head responded well in the break with a Guido Lami
goal. The game was in the balance until Henry Callaghan goal
settled the issue 5 minutes from time to give USRC the perfect debut.
Week
2:
JLeaguers 0 vs Goodfellas 3 3.00pm
- Kwong Fuk Park
In
a boiling hot day day at
Kwong Fuk Park in Tai Po league debutantes Goodfellas emulated USRC
Fridays effort to record a convincing 3 nil victory against a hapless
JLeaguers side. The first half was a close affair with both teams
playing at a high pace and looking for an opening but nothing
happening. Both teams went into the half scorless at the break. The
goodfellas then opened the scoring the second half with an opportunity
goal to Hans Chung. The game remained tight with JLeaguers looking for
a goal got caught on the break with Jerry Chan scoring before
Goodfellas scored again to seal a famous first up victory.
Week
2:
Monopoly 5 vs Force 0 12.30pm
- Sandy Bay old astro
As
the pitch sizzled the
Force were left in tatters as a Monopoly demolition took place at Sandy
Bay. Monopoly's new comer Dean Lochrie opened the scoring with
excellent strike. Then veteran Ed Doyle scored just before the break to
give Monopoly a commanding lead at half time. Force showed little
resistance in the second half with Ed Doyle scoring twice to complete
his hat trick before Dean Lochrie slotted in another goal for a
demoralizing defeat to Force.
Week
2:
Revolution 1 vs Spartans 0 2.00pm
- Sandy Bay old astro
As
the heat continued to take
it's toll on all players the two veteran teams played the closest game
of the round with Revolution recording their first victory in
four
years over current champions the Spartans . As expected the first half
was a fairly even affair with both teams having very few chances. The
second half the defending champions Spartans started the
stronger
missing a few open chances. This was to prove costly with the heat
taking it's toll, Revolution showing more resolve and with 5 minutes
to go a David Jessop header
from
corner opened the scoring. The Spartans still had a chance to
salvage a point but an excellent last minute save by Revolutions goal
keeper Richard Hudson recorded a famous victory.
Week
1 : Saturday 30th August
Week
1:
BoCs 2 vs Mes Amis 3 1.30pm
- Sandy Bay old astro
On
a baking hot day an open
and high scoring game in torrid heat, Mes Amis scored a narrow
victory to kick off their campaign in style. Stuart McInness
opened the scoring with nice strike before three times golden boot
winner Jason Lee scored a double to put BoCs in the lead. However
before half time Matt Farnham equalized for Mes to bring the teams at 2
all deadlock at the break. The second half was different story with the
heat taking it's toll on both teams. With little opportunities and the
game slowing down it looked as though both teams would settle for a
draw. However with 10 minutes to go Tony Hamilton had enough energy to
source an opening to strike home the winner.
